MLB Daily Notebook — 2026-10-17

As the Tampa Bay Rays prepare to face off against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field, all eyes will be on the mound where Nick Martinez takes the ball for the Rays, squaring off against Shawn Armstrong for the Guardians. With the moneyline shifting from -114 to -117 in favor of Tampa Bay, the market is showing a growing confidence in the Rays' ability to secure the win. Both teams have kept their starting lineups close to the vest, but the Rays come into this game with a slight edge, bolstered by a robust bullpen that remains relatively fresh. Weather conditions are less than ideal at 44.2°F with a light 4.4 mph wind blowing out toward center field, but with no rain in sight, the game should proceed without a hitch. The atmosphere at the ballpark will likely feel electric as the Rays look to carry their momentum forward against a Guardians team that has struggled to find consistency.
